A few weeks ago, we were lucky enough to present the launch of Indigo Mckeon’s debut EP, Joy — a dreamy Sunday afternoon filled with art, love, music, and - well, joy. In the weeks since, she’s been pouring her heart into two music videos to accompany the EP.

The EP, Joy, was named after Indigo’s Nan, and features art by Sussanna Watterston, both of whom passed away from cancer. She describes the finished project as “a tribute to both of them”, immortalised through four tracks dripping in love and care.

If Only, the last track off Indigo’s EP, was written from a place of frustration and heartbreak following the horrifying bushfires in Australia this past summer. In approaching the creation of the music video, Indigo describes how “she wanted to portray the things currently jeopardising our world’s future”, offering an exploration of the difference from when we “were all little kids with no worries and so many dreams”, and the horror of the state of the world now.

Directed by Indigo and produced by Charlie Hurd, it layers nostalgic home footage from Indigo’s childhood with real-life coverage from the bushfires, creating a heart-aching contrast. Months on from the bushfire tragedy, she hopes the video release can remind people of the devastation still being dealt with, but feeling more or less forgotten due to the current disaster that is the coronavirus.

Additionally, 100% of profits from the song sales on Bandcamp will be donated to the Port Macquarie Koala Fund.

To accompany, she’s also releasing a music video for Home With Me - with a similar home-video style and featuring the same two childhood friends, ir invokes much-needed feelings of excitement, joy and love. Filmed & edited by Charlie Hurd.

Overall, Indigo’s angelic voice & nostalgic video style soothes the heart, even as she handles issues of such pain and emotion. The entire EP is a dream-soaked vision, and you can stream it now via spotify here.
