Ireland's March for Abortion

Last week we recieved an email from a student in Ireland, Sofia, studying art and photography. She sent over a collection of powerful and striking photographs from marches protesting the abortion ban in her country, and her thoughts on the issue. Not knowing if we would reply, or even open the message, she sent us over a story that’s very close to her heart, her home. It’s individuals like Sofia who spark change, take a chance, and get their voices into the world.

“Currently in Ireland, a referendum is about to occur (Friday, May 25th, 2018) to decide the fate of our abortion laws, as they’re still forbidden. Many marches and protests have been held throughout the last few years, and I have been taking some pictures on 35mm film. The discussion has split Ireland in half, but honestly, I just think it’s ridiculous that if a women gets raped here, she spends longer in prison if she chooses to have an abortion than the actual rapist.”
